Forschungsgruppe Allergologie und Immunologie (FGAI)

Insbesondere Grenzflächenorgane zur Umwelt wie die Haut befinden sich in ständiger Auseinandersetzung und Kommunikation mit einer "fremden" Umgebung. Diese Kommunikation hat Konsequenzen für die Regulation des Immunsystems, für die Entstehung und Bekämpfung von Krebs sowie für die Entwicklung von Allergien.

Im Mittelpunkt der Forschungsgruppe Allergologie und Immunologie steht die Beschreibung komplexer Netzwerke der Immunregulation mittels Charakterisierung der Regulation T-Zell-mediierter Immunantworten durch akzessorische Immunzellen und Identifkation wichtiger daran beteiligter Pathways. Das funktionelle Verständnis der Immunregulation - sowohl am Organ Haut als auch systemisch - wird darüber hinaus für die Target-Evaluation und Biomarkerentwicklung herangezogen. Besonders im Fokus stehen T-Lymphozyten, Mastzellen und basophile Granulozyten sowie dendritische Zellen und myeloid derived supressor cells (MDSC). Als Modellerkrankung werden vor allem die atopische Dermatitis, die Immunabwehr des Melanoms sowie die Anaphylaxie erforscht und für „proof–of-concept“-Experimente herangezogen.
